善的顏色是怎樣?惡的顏色又是怎樣?
在西方基督教傳統裡,善與惡都是「黑白分明」,從來沒有「灰色地帶」。
希治閣原創《觸目驚心》是一部黑白片。我們第一次見女主角Marion是穿著白色胸圍。
但當她偷錢之後,她戴起黑色胸圍。這是典型的希治閣隱喻。
所以當我們重拍彩色版的《觸目驚心》,「善與惡」的顏色成為最棘手的問題。
電影的場景、選用的膠片以至美指方向都讓影片色調比較柔和,我用的燈光也相對黑白片更輕柔…討論了一輪,也多次造訪女性內衣店,我們都同意在電影開首時,Mario戴上粉紅胸圍(和套裙)。但當她決定偷錢,成了「壞女孩」,她的胸圍和底裙頓變成青綠/綠色。
What is the colour of goodness? What it the colour of sin?
Western Christian tradition sees good and evil, right and wrong as very “ black and white”. There is no “middle” ground.
Alfred Hitchock’s original Psycho is a black and white film, so the first time we see the leading character Marion is wearing a white bra.
After she steals her client’s money she is wearing a black bra. The symbolism is typical Hitchock.
So when we re-made the film in colour, the biggest question was what
is “good and bad” in colour ?
The sets and the film stock and the art direction gave the film a muted palette, and my lighting was in general softer than one would use in a black and white film …so after much discussion, and a lot of trips to ladies underwear stores, we agreed that Marion would wear a pink bra ( and dress ) at the beginning of the film. But then when she steals the cash, once she became a “bad girl” her bra and underslip would be turquoise/green .
